From Fair Copyright Toronto
On June 12, 2008 Industry Minister Jim Prentice and Canadian Heritage Minister Josée Verner introduced Bill C-61 – the Canadian DMCA. It is apparent that the worst fears of thousands of Canadians have been realized. Contrary to the media spin and a handful of headline-grabbing provisions, this Bill clearly adopts the American approach to digital copyright law. Something which should be very troubling to every Canadian consumer and creator. The most worrisome component of Bill C-61 is the anti-circumvention provisions, which undermines each of the new made-in-Canada user rights being used to sell this legislation to the Canadian public.

In addition, you will also have the opportunity to view the Appropos art exhibition. This exhibition is based on the work of artists whose use of incorporating borrowed elements from popular culture for the purpose of creating new work, stands to be outlawed by Bill C-61.

Talking Points on C-61
Here are some simple, bite-sized arguments against Bill C-61. Feel free to add your own!
Tips On Meeting Your MP
Talking to your MP face-to-face can have an enormous impact. Visiting an MP's office shows that constituents care enough about an issue to take time out of their day, puts a face on an otherwise abstract issue, and gives normal people like us a chance to be advocates. However, it can also be daunting! Before you go, read our "Tips On Meeting Your MP".

Please try and avoid duplication of effort between chapters. Apparently there will be a national content management system (CMS) set up in the next few weeks.
